Installation Instructions: Script Handwritten Font
All Peninsula House Numbers script handwritten font signs come with a print out of installation instructions, and your installation template. We've also detailed them below if you're wanting to get prepared - or if your instructions have gone missing.
01
Gather sign, template, rods and spacers. Not included: spirit level, tape, epoxy adhesive (we recommend Loctite Easy Repair 5 Minute Epoxy), drill and 4mm bit. Brick or concrete may require a hammer drill and 4mm masonry bit.
02
Tape template at desired location. Use a spirit level to align template. Drill through template at marked points with a 4mm drill bit, then remove template and blow dust out of the holes.
03
Gently hand screw rods into pre-drilled holes on back of the sign. Avoid cross threading by ensuring the rod is pointing directly in to the hole when screwing, and not at an angle.
04
For a floating mount, slide spacers over each of the rods. Alternatively, leave the spacers off for a flush mount.
05
Apply a small amount of epoxy to the end of the exposed rods and push sign into holes. If light tapping is needed, tap gently and only over a rod. Take care not to scratch the face. Don't install in rain. Epoxy reaches full strength in 24 hours.
Care
To extend the life of your sign, clean every six months or every three months in coastal areas. Use a soft cloth and a mild household detergent solution to remove dust, salt, and other deposits. Rinse gently with clean, fresh water. Dry with non-abrasive towel. Avoid abrasive pads and harsh or solvent-based cleaners.
Commercial, multi-storey and elevated installations
Our signs are supplied for installation by you or your installer. We don't install, inspect sites or assess walls. If your sign is going on a commercial building, a multi-storey facade, above head height, or over a footpath, entry or other public area:
- Use a qualified tradesperson, and follow site safety and working-at-heights requirements.
- Your installer is responsible for confirming that the fixing method and adhesive suit the wall, the height, the exposure and the weight of the sign. The rods, spacers and adhesive we supply are designed for typical residential installations.
- For signs mounted above head height, use the threaded rods at every fixing point. Don't rely on adhesive alone.
- Follow the adhesive manufacturer's instructions for temperature, cure time and load, and don't install in the rain. Adhesives have a maximum service temperature, so on sun-exposed walls, especially with dark finishes, choose one rated for the temperatures the wall surface reaches.
- Check the sign is secure once installed, and include it in the building's routine maintenance inspections.
Script signs vary with the text, font and height, so we don't publish a weight table. As a guide, 8mm solid aluminium weighs about 2.1 grams per square centimetre of face area. We give your sign's weight with your quote, so just ask if your installer needs it. Each threaded rod and spacer adds less than 10 g.
