Installation Instructions: Apartment & Hotel Door Numbers
All Peninsula House Numbers apartment and hotel door numbers come with a print out of installation instructions, and the optional snap-lock installation template if you ordered one. We've also detailed them below if you're wanting to get prepared - or if your instructions have gone missing.
01
Gather your door numbers (adhesive backing tape is pre-applied), alcohol wipe, and the optional snap-lock installation template if you purchased one. Not included: pencil, tape and spirit level.
02
Clean the mounting surface thoroughly with the alcohol wipe and a clean cloth to remove any dirt, dust, or grease. Allow the surface to dry completely.
03
Snap the template pieces together (if purchased), position on the door at your chosen height and check level. Hold or tape it in place with painter's tape. Without template, position numbers, check level then use a pencil to make light reference marks for alignment and spacing. Spacing recommendation is ten percent of the height.
04
Peel the protective liner from the pre-applied backing tape on each number. The permanent acrylic adhesive bonds on contact, so avoid touching it with your fingers.
05
Place each number into the centre of its template cutout, or align it with your pencil marks, and press it onto the door.
06
If you used the template, untape and pull it gently away from the door. Apply strong pressure across the entire surface of each number for at least 30 seconds to set the adhesive bond. Repeat on the next door.
Adhesive
Each number comes with black foam backing tape with a permanent acrylic adhesive, pre-applied and cut to the shape of the number. It holds many times the weight of the number and bonds permanently to a clean, smooth surface when pressed on firmly.
- Painted and laminate doors need a thorough wipe-down first. Dust or grease stops the tape bonding.
- The tape bonds on contact and can't be repositioned, so check alignment before you press.
- Press firmly across the whole number for at least 30 seconds.
- To remove a number, warm it gently, ease it off and clean any residue with adhesive remover.
- An adhesive specification is available on request for building managers and certifiers.
Fire doors
Never drill or screw into a fire door. Your numbers are surface-mounted with adhesive only, so nothing penetrates the door face. Fire door requirements are set by each door's certification, so the building's fire safety practitioner or door certifier has the final say.
Care
Your numbers are designed for internal use. Dust occasionally with a soft cloth. Remove marks with a mild household detergent solution and dry with a non-abrasive towel. Keep polished brass and stainless steel bright with Autosol metal polish. Brass dulls naturally over time.
